Tar Hollow Camporee: 3rd Weekend in May

For over 40 years, Fellowship members, friends and neighbors from Yellow Springs have participated in a community campout in the hills of southeast Ohio at Tar Hollow State Park.  The weekend (always the third weekend in May) provides an opportunity for approximately 150 individuals of all ages to enjoy socializing, campfire activities, hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, observing spring foliage, admiring our children, cooking and eating, hanging out, playing games, making music, and generally appreciating the good company.

This camping weekend is organized by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Yellow Springs, but is open to all community residents and friends.  Often, families of three generations attend, some of whom came to Tar Hollow as children and now come as parents or grandparents.

The facilities at the state park's group camp are rustic, centered by a handsome wood lodge with a large hall and well-equipped kitchen.  There are modern bathroom facilities and over two dozen cabins which sleep eight, plus a campground for tents.  We have sole access to the group swimming and boating dock, which includes park canoes, rowboats, kayaks, and safety equipment.  Everyone, including young children, share the chores--cooking, serving food, clearing tables, clean-up, life-guarding, etc--just as everyone shares in the fun to whatever extent they wish.

Please watch the Yellow Springs News in April for information about the current year Camporee, or e-mail the Tar Hollow Coordinator or leave a message at (937) 767-1603.

Fellowship members, friends, and newcomers to the community are welcome to join us for a weekend of enjoying the woods in its spring-time splendor!
